Our Work

OUR CASE STUDY FISHERIES

ECO-CATCH is working with 9 case study fisheries that have significant interactions with sensitive species or juvenile fish. These fisheries include: 2 beam trawl fisheries, 2 bottom trawl fisheries, 1 pelagic trawl fishery and 2 set net fisheries. Bycatch of sensitive species varies greatly between location, season, and fishing method. New technology and gears must therefore be adapted specifically for the target fishery to be effective and accelerate their uptake, ultimately reducing bycatch and protecting habitats.

Each of our 10 technologies to reduce bycatch and impacts on sensitive habitats will be trialled aboard fishing vessels in the Baltic and Greater North Sea.

BYCATCH CLUSTER

ECO-CATCH is working closely with our sister projects Marine Guardian and Sea4Future to minimize bycatch across all European waters. We are proud to be a part of the European Bycatch Cluster including projects such as CIBBRiNA, REDUCE, Marine Beacon and Prometheus.
