To incentivise fishers to adopt ECO-CATCH’s solutions, this Work Package will identify the mechanism by which the new technologies and gears will facilitate access to market incentive schemes and sustainability ratings. This will include evidencing the ECO-CATCH data workflow to input into sustainability assessments, and providing guidance to help simplify the auditing and reporting process.
MSC, ILVO, GFISH, DTU, ESPERSEN
ECO-CATCH will seek to tailor and align its data with market incentive schemes (e.g. MSC, WWF Seafood Guide, and VALDUVIS) and their criteria, while meeting the requirements of sustainability directives, by reducing the bycatch of sensitive species and juvenile fish. ECO-CATCH data will address existing data gaps and be provided in a fit-for-purpose and easy-to-use format, helping to streamline the market incentive assessment process.
ILVO, GFISH, DTU, MSC
In order to support sustainability evaluations, ECO-CATCH will develop robust sustainability metrics and criteria that are practical for use by market incentive schemes which audit fisheries deploying ECO-CATCH solutions. Sustainability metric calculations will be applied to ECO-CATCH case studies to identify improvements in vessels or fisheries willing to achieve certification.
GFISH, ILVO, DTU, MSC
ECO-CATCH will demonstrate the practical application of its data and sustainability metrics in assessments for market incentives, focusing on transparency and the technological innovation supporting bycatch mitigation. The implications for Corporate Sustainability Reporting and how accurate reporting can leverage sustainable seafood certification will also be considered. A report on business-as-usual fishery performance, versus those using ECO-CATCH innovations, will help compare the market benefits of ECO-CATCH’s solutions.
